Museum Campus
OVERVIEW
Harbour Contractors, Inc. provided project management, construction engineering, and inspection services to the Chicago Department of Transportation and the Chicago Park District for the supervision of construction of the Museum Campus Landscape and Walkways. The Park was constructed in conjunction with the relocation of Lake Shore Drive.
When the northbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive were relocated to the west side of Soldier Field in 1996, the existing Field Museum parking lot, utilities, and roadway were demolished, and 100,000 CY of earth were moved to create the Museum Campus.
The park area was created using precast concrete, generous walkways, sitting areas, and ample trees, plants and groundcovers. The Campus has become a center of activities, serving the Chicago Park District, Field Museum, and Shedd Aquarium.
