Marianjoy Rehabilitation Center
OVERVIEW
Construction for a Rehabilitation Center with National Recognition
Harbour’s expertise in complicated projects led to the Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital, part of Northwestern Medicine, providing intensive physical medicine and rehabilitation to individuals who have experienced an illness or injury. This facility has gained national recognition for treating various medical conditions, including specialty programs focused on stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, pediatric, orthopedic/musculoskeletal, pain, and neuromuscular disorders.
The 120-bed building also supports comprehensive care teams of physicians, therapists, nurses, and support staff trained and certified in the latest and most effective practices, simultaneously contributing to the field with innovations through research and education. With an infrastructure to support the most current state-of-the-art technology, medical research, and a peaceful setting for its patients. This facility doesn’t just rehabilitate; it restores hope and rebuilds lifestyles.
Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital Wins “20 Most Beautiful Hospitals in America” Award from Soliant Health (2019)
In the hospital’s third year on the list, Marianjoy improved two spots to rank #11 in the country. With 50 hospitals nominated for the honor, the contest was determined by over 100,000 votes by healthcare staff, patients, and the community.
Situated on a 60-acre wooded campus, Marianjoy provides patients and their families with a high degree of comfort and privacy while offering beautiful views of nature. A labyrinth connecting all the buildings on the ground floor gives patients and guests a place of solitude and reflection. Several gardens provide an opportunity for meditation and to experience the healing effect of interacting with nature.
Soliant Health praised the 170,000-square-foot hospital for its “delightful multi-level campus. as well as visually attractive courtyards and walkways. The visual pièce-de-résistance of this facility is a warm-water therapy pool, surrounded by glass walls and ceiling, overlooking a first-of-its-kind rain garden.” The therapy pool is located within the Marianjoy Assistive Rehabilitation Technology Institute, a building that used to house the original inpatient hospital. In 2014, the space was repurposed and designed to highlight the art and science of rehabilitation medicine, combining the latest innovations in rehabilitation technology with the caring spirit of the clinicians and therapists who practice there.
