Oak Brook Shopping Center
OVERVIEW
After completing I-88, Harbour built Oak Brook Center, a shopping center near Interstate 88 and Route 83 in Oak Brook, Illinois. It was initially opened in 1962. Managed and co-owned by General Growth Properties, it is the second-largest shopping center in the Chicago metropolitan area by gross leasable area, only surpassed by Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, Illinois. Current anchor stores include Lord & Taylor, Macy’s (formerly Marshall Field’s), Neiman Marcus, and Nordstrom.
It is considered Chicago’s most successful mall, it is a premier shopping center and spectacular outdoor mall with over 170 stores and over 2 million square feet. Oak Brook Center has been expanded a few times but has always managed to maintain the clean, timeless look and feel of the original white structure concept.
