Expert Airport Hangar Construction

Harbour served as the design-builder for the 35,200 SF Clear Span Hangar for the DuPage Airport Authority. This hangar is designed to accommodate large aircraft with a single open bay accessed from the airside by multi-panel sliding hangar doors. An adjacent space was provided on the north end of the hangar to house support equipment, including de-icing trucks, tugs for aircraft relocation, and golf carts for the DuPage airport.

The hangar is a pre-engineered structure with a reinforced concrete foundation, structural steel frame, insulated metal and precast concrete wall panels with polycarbonate glazing, and a large-radius, arched roof. The aviation project also includes apron lighting, ADA ramp, translucent wall panels, standing seam metal roof, and approximately 150,000 SF of pavement being regraded, including 4″ of asphalt-treated permeable base and 8″ of PCC after the demolition of the apron.

The DuPage Airport is a general aviation airport located 29 miles west of downtown Chicago in West Chicago, DuPage County, Illinois. It is owned and operated by the DuPage Airport Authority, an independent government body established by law by the State of Illinois.

Harbour’s experience in aviation began in the early 1990s as construction manager for projects at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. Since then, our dedicated aviation team serves the O’Hare Modernization Program and has runway and terminal construction experience, including the O’Hare’s International Terminal 5 project.
