LyondellBasell Breaks Ground in Morris
LyondellBasell breaks ground with the help of Harbour Contractors, Inc. in Morris, IL to begin the new design-build operations facility on July 12, 2018. The site is approximately 60 miles from Chicago. The project will consist of a new free-standing 100,000 SF facility to house the plant’s new control room, laboratories, maintenance shops, and administrative offices. Harbour is extremely excited to be working with the great people over at LyondellBasell and delivering them a new Class A facility as the ground breaks in Morris.
The new facility is one of the largest petrochemical facilities in the Midwest. Approximately 400 employees and contractors work on the site which covers an area of almost 700 acres. Using natural gas liquids as a feedstock, the plant manufactures ethylene, the world’s most widely-used petrochemical, which is then converted into polyethylene plastic resins. These resins serve as building blocks for countless products that provide the necessities of modern life, such as leak-proof and shatter-proof containers for industrial and household chemicals, packaging that protects our food from spoilage and contamination, and children’s toys that are safe and durable. LyondellBasell is one of the largest producers of ethylene and polyethylene in North America.
The complex’s commitment to sustainable growth balances our responsibility to provide economic value for our stakeholders while respecting the social concerns of the community in which we operate, and demonstrating care for the environment around us.
Our site is a major economic engine for the community by providing skilled jobs, purchasing millions of dollars in local goods and services, and paying taxes to support local schools and government services. The Morris Complex has been an important asset to the community and region for more than 40 years.
